Weight Loss After 40
Susan Lark, MD recently released her work called, "Three Simple Steps to Thin".
Let's review those steps today in a very condensed version. Dr. Lark states you can break weight loss down to three steps and accomplish your goal. The ACA has announced that October is Chiropractic's National Obesity and Weight Loss Month. Their motto is "Why Weight, Get Healthy!"
Dr. Lark states STEP ONE should be to banish wheat, which, in her opinion, flushes false fat from the body that is caused by eating gluten. Please read Dr. Eydi Bauer's book Life After Bread (ISBN978-1-879384-77-4.) She is a Brimhall Certified Practitioner from California who assists us in some of the Nutri-West/Brimhall Seminars telling her "Gluten Story". Both Dr. Lark and Bauer feel gluten is one of the most common food allergens and a major cause of false fat. Wheat and some other grains contain the protein gluten, which is difficult to break down, absorb and assimilate. All of these issues can trigger fatigue, depression, bloating and intestinal gas.
You can substitute breads made with rice, millet, amaranth, quinoa, or soy and oat etc. Please refer to Dr. Bauer's book for complete lists, ideas and hope. Almost all health food stores and some supermarkets have non-gluten sections or labels. You may need to stay off other foods that cause inflammation such as sugars, hydrogenated fats and for some, the nightshades, like potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, tobacco etc.
STEP TWO is to naturally reduce your appetite. The old myth in dieting told you to avoid fats. We now know essential fatty acids help us feel full and help reduce our appetite? Fiber is also known for this quality as well. One of the favorite foods to accomplish both fiber and essential fatty acids is flaxseed. It's full of omega-3 fatty acids and an excellent source of fiber. Dr. Lark feels flaxseed is one of nature's most perfect foods. The essential oils in flax are healing and anti-aging for skin. Dr. Lark quotes, "In fact, I'm such a fan of flax that if I were stranded on an island, and had to choose one food to survive on, I'd choose flaxseed hands down."
